Bought super earlybird tickets, what a bargain! Couldn't get there early enough for the first main stage band, but loved all of the others. Jaz Beeson was great on the Back to Mono stage too. It's a shame it wasn't full to capacity, as there was a lot of real talent on stage. A compere to introduce each act and tell us a little about them would have really added to the night, also to let people know about changes and why the headliners weren't there. (I did Google it, get well soon Angus!) Please can you pop a quick stage times on your social media on the day of gigs, it really makes it so much easier to check quickly. In future years (I hope there are) a slightly later start would help those of us who have to travel or work or both. On the whole though, a fantastic night out! Thank you 🙂

Overall, well done to the organisers for pulling together another good schedule, with some stellar performances by rising stars in the industry. Snayx, The Rills, Shelf Lives, Home Counties… all fabulous and memorable for various reasons. Didn’t feel as though Deadletter got enough consideration, timed to appear after the original billed 10pm curfew (at time of purchasing tickets) and they lost some of their audience who had to make a dash for their last trains. Deadletter deserve better than this! Equally why not factor in a small timings gap to accommodate time to exit and enter venues… what a shame that the artists had to endure the audience arriving late to each party and leaving early… it must be disheartening to them to see that happening. Would have been nice to have seen stronger local talent in the earlier slots. Jopy, Doops, Puma Theory and especially Bone-idle could all do with some promotion as they start their journeys in the industry. Also recommend Shady Baby, Hallan, Little Thief, Taunts, Gas Kunst …. I could go on!!! A representative of Alcopops would have been nice also, given the number of their bands playing. Chroma just nailed their slot. For lots of people there that was the moment when Beam me up came alive! All said and done, looking forward to the next one, it could start earlier and pack much more in but only with stronger acts.

Beam Me Up! Oxford 2024, Various Oxford Venues, Oxford - 10th February 2024
Went with a friend and it made for a fantastic evening First, we went into the Bullingdon to see Chroma, who gave off an energetic, hyped-up performance. Then, we went into the O2 Academy Oxford for the next round of bands. Danny Mellin came with some colourful visuals and some good indie rock tunes. Dolly Mavies played some breezy folk, and a cover of Candi Staton’s “Young Hearts Run Free”. This was my 2nd time seeing her perform live (the 1st was at the Cassette Store Day event in Truck Store back in October 2018). 7pm, we went to see the rowdy punk of Shelf Lives. Their set was definitely my fave of the ones I saw and was a band I was hoping to see perform at the festival. They played “Off The Rails” and “All Grown Up”, two tracks from their brilliant EP You Okay. Very flashy visuals, pumped up music, drum machines and samplers together, and a shot at Boris Johnson made for an amazing live experience. We later went downstairs to see The Bobo play their last song, which, like Dolly, was soothing. Going back upstairs one more time, we saw some great rock tunes played by Dolores Forever. They played “Baby Teeth” and “Conversations With Strangers”, the latter of which was my favourite of the Dolores songs I listened to in preparation for this gig. They also got everyone to sing along to a song about asking for pasta (which I originally misheard as asking for the ‘passcode’). Last, but not least, I went back into the Bullingdon at 8:45pm to see Home Counties (another band I was hoping to see perform live). They played some incredible post-punk, including “Back To The 70s”, my favourite song from their In A Middle English Town EP. Only drawback was that the venue was cramped at that time and I didn’t have a lot of space to move around, but it was a great performance nonetheless.
