The Cult, The Piece Hall, Halifax - 5th July 2023
The historic arena is a perfect venue for this type of event and lends itself to a great vibe on its own merit. The Mission kicked off and some old, old favourites mixed with a few unknown (to me, ToH/SOD fan) were performed by all involved to create a brilliant buzz throughout the set. The two shoulder standers brought back hazy, yet wonderful memories days of yore. Impressed and happy to have seen them again after so long. Then The Cult emerged and from chord, note and beat one brought a massive amount of joy to many middle aged people. If anything this was possibly as low key on the dramatics but first class on performance and musicianship. Rating for each Venue- 9/10 Mission 9/10 Cult 9/10 Namaste

What performances by The Mission, The Alarm were superb and The Cult well what can I say!! Magnificent and in total control. The staff at Cardiff Castle were also in control, helping me out when my phone went down with my tickets on line. Going back!!

The Cult formed in England in 1984, with the seminal post-punk band going on to sell millions of albums with numerous international and US gold and platinum certifications.
Ian Astbury (vocals) and Billy Duffy (guitar) have released more than ten successful studio albums over The Cult’s career. The band, dubbed “Shamanic goths”, found international renown with the 1985 album, Love, which featured the enduring rock anthem "She Sells Sanctuary", as well as the oft-heard follow-up single, "Rain".
Electric arrived in 1989, with journalists saying the collection of songs (particularly "Love Removal Machine", "Wild Flower" and "Lil’ Devil") “swaggers, crunches and howls.” In 2022, The Cult released Under the Midnight Sun. A review of the eight-song album succinctly said “rock’s unquenchable melodramatists have the fire in their eyes still.”
Astbury and Duffy reformed Death Cult in late 2023 for a series of live performances including a sole US date at The Theatre at The Ace Hotel and a limited run of UK dates including back-to-back sold out shows at Electric Brixton.
Over the early months of 2024, the band performed on The Howard Stern Show and begun a series of vinyl reissues of their full slate of critically-acclaimed albums.
