Worth every penny.

I was amazed that the audience was not larger, but when it clashed with a Napalm Death gig, I suppose I shouldn't be. In truth I made the journey, booked the tickets, booked the hotel to see the support band. Ghost Bath were superb and "marmite" band they may be, they were even better, more raw, live than on album! Hugely impressive performance by a band I count myself lucky to have seen and to have been "up front" with. Now I just want to see more of them next time round? Katatonia were excellent and although they may not be totally my cup of tea, their musicianship was amazing and they had their fans in a state of ecstasy. Well done The Slade Rooms, you've cracked it again!

Katatonia, The Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton - 9th May 2017

Katatonia & Solstafir will head out in January and February 2022 on a 31 date co-headline tour of the UK and Europe.

The coming together of these two revered masters of melancholy seems only natural. For over a quarter of a century both artists have favoured the emotional connection that their music brings over all else. Theirs is a world where 'heavy' is a force of nature; where progress comes from within, outwardly changing their musical output into something almost unrecognisable from the extreme metal that carried it in the early days.

The BBC's description of Katatonia's "grandiose, majestic beauty" seems appropriate for both artists. It's no coincidence that The Guardian's take on Solstafir is equally apt: "total immersion is compulsory".

Katatonia are crushingly heavy metal band hailing from Sweden. Crashing drums and epic guitars give a platform for the mythic laden lyrics. Katatonia are credited with being the founders of the extreme form of metal death-doom.

Originally a studio based two piece, the band started in 1991 by vocalist Jonas Renkse who was known at the time as Lord Seth and guitarist Anders Nyström using the moniker Blakkheim. The pair produced the EP Jhva Elohim Meth whose underground success saw it being re-released by Dutch label Vic Records and the development into a full band.

Having released nine studio albums thus far and played countless shows the band have continued to push forward the barriers of metal. By being constantly inventive, Katatonia have earned fans of prog rock, black metal and hard rock.

Their talent for writing disarming lyrics backed by heavy riffs has seen their name forever etched in the annals of rock history with even better yet to come.

Their tenth studio album The Fall Of Hearts was released in 2016 by Peaceville Records. Recorded at Studio Gröndahl and Tri-lamb Studio, the record was self-produced by Renkse and Nyström and then mastered by Jens Bogren who has worked on music by Opeth, Ihsahn and Devin Townsend. The Fall Of Hearts will also feature the talents of newly added guitarist Roger Öjersson and drummer Daniel ’Mojjo’ Moilanen.

This is the most exciting music they have crafted in over a decade, and is essential listening whatever your preferred Kataton-era.” - Angry Metal Guy

Inspiring and forward-looking, this album proves that at 25, Katatonia are still restless and refuse to rest on their laurels.” - All Music

Book your Katatonia early or they may sell out and leave you disappointed.
